Eating Disorder Treatment

who is affected by eating disorders?

Eating disorders affect 14 million individuals worldwide (World Health Organization, 2019). While popular belief may have us thinking that eating disorders primarily affect thin, white, adolescent girls, the reality is that eating disorders do not discriminate and affect individuals of all races, genders, ages, and socioeconomic statuses. Eating disorders are not identifiable by the way we look either - only 9% of those diagnosed with an eating disorder are clinically underweight (National Alliance for Eating Disorders).

Anorexia Nervosa, Bulimia Nervosa, Avoidant Restrictive Food Intake Disorder (ARFID), Binge Eating Disorder and Other Specified Eating Disorder (OSFED) impact quality of life and health in significant ways, and often show up differently than the media would have us believe.

health at every size

The clinicians at The Healing Tree practice from a weight neutral, Health at Every Size (HAES) perspective. We take a holistic, person in environment approach where weight is not the primary focus in determining health or in setting and achieving goals. By identifying a plan for balanced nutrition and joyful movement in a weight-inclusive environment, we work to combat weight stigma and celebrate the joy in body diversity.

how we can help you heal

At The Healing Tree, we have several members of our team who have spent years engaged in specialized training specifically to help you recover and heal your relationship with food and your body.

Through individual counseling, family counseling, and coordination with the rest of your care team (medical practitioners, registered dietitian, psychiatrist, etc.), we will work with you to unlearn irrational beliefs about food and your body, build healthy, life enhancing coping skills, and identify a joyful path forward. Without judgment and with your own goals at the forefront, we will walk beside you to build a caring relationship with your body that prioritizes compassion and wellness rather than the conditions of the scale.
